Welcome to the Maxi-Scooter website, a place for owners and would-be owners of Maxi-Scooters, or anyone who is curious about them. Here we can learn from each other and hopefully make our scoots more fun and safer to ride.
My name is Dave Karpman (login: dandrewk). I was fed up with paying inflated prices at the gas pump and felt guilty about polluting the air driving a car. So I purchased a Yamaha Majesty 400 in August, 2005. I had determined enough was enough.
Needless to say, I have discovered what all Maxi-Scooter owners have discovered: These things are FUN to ride. Very economical and clean. I have no regrets.
So this is OUR forum, so let's make something that is functional as well as useful.
Why do we need another forum? Isn't there enough of this already? Good question!
Like most people, I research a product before I buy. There is an enormous amount of information about scooters on the world wide web, and this was the first place I looked. There are many sites devoted to scooters, from individual forums to Yahoo groups to Usenet groups. This was very useful to me, I learned a lot and was able to whittle down what type of scooter I wanted, and then which model suited me best.
However, most of these websites were either too general or too specific. There are Yahoo groups dedicated to a particular make and model. There are forums and websites devoted to all scooters, but these are heavily populated with owners of smaller, more traditional scooters. Maxi-Scooters are relatively new to the market, and thus our questions often get buried and/or lost in the crowd. I just didn't want to waste time wading through hundreds of posts about Vespas and Chinese imports (not that there is anything wrong with these) when I was only interested in Maxi-Scooters.
So, here we have website just for Maxi-Scooters. There are many issues and questions that pertain to ALL Maxis, and by tapping into the experiences of owners of different makes we increase the pool of knowledge. The larger the pool, the more we can learn from each other.
So then... what exactly is a Maxi-Scooter? Why have they suddenly become so popular? I will be developing an FAQ just to answer such questions, and to weigh the pros and cons of these "scooters on steroids". For the purpose of this website, I am defining a Maxi-Scooter as anything 250cc and above. There are many other characteristics that make them unique, but at these engine sizes we can take our scooters on the freeways and interstates and cruise indefinitely.
So there we have it, and here we are! As I mentioned, this will all be changing and growing as we go along. Besides making suggestions, there is one other thing that you all can do to make this work better: Spread the word! I will submit website info to all the usual search engines and do my best to make our presence known, but nothing beats word-of-mouth. If someone out there is seeking info on Maxis, I want them to be able to find this place.
